Why?

I know I know...why would you start a blog talking about what you eat?

Well here is the short answer...

I used to be a really chubby adolescent and maintained that chub pretty much up until I had my daughter save for a few stressful moments in my early twenties that caused rapid weight loss (can we say divorce??) and those pounds were quickly regained in the year that followed the dissolution of that union.

Even after I started dating my husband Derrick (who is Mr Health and Fitness...) was I still not able to get my weight under control...in fact I was at my largest when I got pregnant....Was I happy about this?? I think NOT!! And the worst part about it was I felt out of control. I had no idea how to make my body do what I wanted it to do. And how to stop being hungry? That was another problem in and of itself.

It wasn't until I was actually pregnant that I lost weight...I know, a little backwards but I was so sick and had a major aversion to sweets. All I could manage to cram down my throat for the first 4 months was Kix cereal and non fat milk....and you can only eat so many bowls of Kix.
As my pregnancy moved along I gained a belly but lost weight in my face....and much to the chagrin of my OB did not gain my first 5 lbs until my 6th month. Only after about the 4th month was I able to eat normal food, but strangely was not craving sweets as I had my whole life but found my self eating eggs and whole wheat toast... a lot! The occasional piece of bacon made it onto my plate (hey, I was pregnant!) but for the most part I craved really healthy food. What I learned from this was that the sugar I had been eating pre-pregnancy was making my body all cattywampus, and making it difficult for me to get a handle on my appetite...but we will come back to that in another post....

By the time I left the hospital with my daughter I weighed less than when I got pregnant with her. I felt really good about this and decided to keep up the healthy eating. The pounds slowly came off until I remember getting on the scale and seeing a weight I hadn't seen since jr. high!

People would comment on how I had lost all the baby weight and ask me where I worked out, and I had to admit to them that I worked out minimally and that my real secret was the food I was eating. A lot of cottage cheese! But mostly lean protien and lots of vegetables and only complex carbohydrates....sure every now and then there was a trip to IHOP involved but for the most part I was really good about eating clean.

Now I am embarking on a new challenge called The Game On diet! I am really excited to compete against some other fab ladies as a means of upping the health and fitness ante. I want to use this blog as a place to put down my food ideas and also as a reference for those just embarking on eating clean. I hope it proves useful.

Thanks For Stopping by!
